2010 Courageous Living Conference

Many Christians today report to us a sense of rising fear. Fears are growing regarding finances, marriages, children, culture, government, environment, crime, terrorism, persecution and more. The Courageous Living Conference will address these issues with application for faithful living.

The original church faced the same challenges and threats for their faith. Listen to the words of the disciple Peter, who denied Jesus just a few months earlier, And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus. (Acts 4:29-30)  As we reflect on this theme for our conference, we all desire to see God’s transforming power reign upon our lives and culture again. So how do we live in these days of threats to our security and speak with boldness in the name of Christ? This is the question we hope to address at the Courageous Living Conference using lessons from Acts 3 and 4. When life is difficult, God calls us to get back to the basics. Our hope is to equip you with tools of faith to walk with confidence in the days we live. We pray that you will leave with a profound hope in God’s sovereignty and His plans for you.

Who better to teach on this subject than the friends of Spirit of Martyrdom who have faced their fears in violent and difficult environments and found God’s provision.

Russell Stendal will be our key note speaker. He was held hostage in Colombia for five months in 1983 by the Communist armed Guerrillas. Many days they threatened to kill him. He faced his fears of death and the fear of not seeing his wife and children ever again. Instead of giving into fear, he turned the situation over to God. The Lord reminded him, “you had prayed for a ministry to the Guerrillas, now I have given you one.” As he trusted God’s hand of protection and provision, his heart began to melt with compassion for the soldiers. His eyes were opened to their hurts and their hopes. He began to write his life story while in captivity. (Now published as Rescue the Captors and available on our web site.) The soldiers were enthralled by his testimony and began to pass his story around the camp.  Slowly soldiers came to Russell sharing their problems and asking for advice and even prayer. Eventually, he was released. However, now the Guerrilla soldiers had a new respect for his faith and understanding of the Gospel.

This experience engrafted in Russell a deep faith in God’s providence.

Marius Chelmagan will be joining the speaking team. He is uniquely qualified to address the issue of faith over fear. He was born to a Christian family in Romania. When he was six his parents fled Romania because of persecution for their faith in Jesus Christ. Today Marius has founded a worldwide ministry called Youth 4 the Kingdom. He travels the world sharing the Gospel and meeting the needs of the poor, disenfranchised and the spiritually hungry. His desire is to see youth discipled into a mature witnesses of Christ. He says,

“The courageous and bold have the biggest impact–let us impact the world for Christ.

The final speaker sharing stories and insights into courageous living will be Pastor David Witt. He is the Founder of Spirit of Martyrdom ministries.  He has traveled to 46 nations in his lifetime. He has authored the book, Fearless Love, In the Midst of Terror and is a contributing author to the new discipleship book called, Jesus’ Final Words. He is an Associate Representative with The Voice of the Martyrs. His calling has taken him into dangerous places. He visited the believers in civil war, Islamic controlled nations and Communist controlled nations. He has visited persecuted Christians in prisons, underground churches and home fellowships.

His passion is to see the church embolden with faith and to experience the joy of a courageous witness in Christ.

We have also partnered with KGCB Radio Shine, Youth 4 The Kingdom, Colombia For Christ, The Voice of the Martyrs and Verde Baptist Church to bring you this conference.
