In the first quarter of 2026, SOM South America has continued to meet both physical and spiritual needs in frontier regions through a variety of initiatives. The year began with impactful leadership gatherings, distribution of Bibles and discipleship resources, and expanded outreach through radio improvements. Upgrades to solar-powered systems in remote areas have made broadcasts more reliable and cost-effective, allowing messages of hope to reach even farther.

One of the most meaningful developments has come through the distribution of portable water treatment systems. While these projects were designed to address urgent physical needs, they have also created unexpected opportunities for deeper engagement.

In several communities, children showed a remarkable interest in how the water systems function. Their curiosity about filtration, purification, and water chemistry led to informal learning environments where education is often limited or inaccessible. These moments have grown into teaching opportunities—spaces where practical knowledge is shared alongside conversations about faith, integrity, and spiritual growth.

What began as a response to a basic necessity has become a pathway for mentorship and discipleship, especially among younger generations.

Providing Clean Water for Children in Vulnerable Communities

In one particularly challenging region of South America, SOM was able to assist a local organization serving vulnerable children in a high-risk environment. The area faces significant social instability, and children are often exposed to exploitation and violence.

By providing a water treatment system, SOM helped meet a critical need for safe drinking water. Beyond that, the partnership has opened new doors. Leaders within the organization have expressed growing interest in spiritual resources, requesting access to Bibles and additional materials. What started as a practical intervention is now becoming a relationship marked by trust, learning, and openness to the Gospel.

Disaster Relief and Emergency Flood Response Efforts

The work has also included rapid response during times of disaster. Following severe flooding in a coastal region, teams mobilized to deliver essential supplies to affected families. After traveling long distances over difficult terrain, they distributed hundreds of relief packages containing food, basic necessities, and medical supplies. Water systems were also deployed to help address immediate needs for clean water.

While the scale of the crisis is immense, these efforts serve as a tangible reminder to local believers that they are not alone. Many had been praying for help, and the arrival of support strengthened their faith and encouraged them to continue in hope.

As reflected in Psalm 37:25, there is a deep reassurance in knowing that God sees and provides. Through each project—whether meeting physical needs, fostering education, or strengthening faith—SOM continues to serve as a bridge of encouragement and practical care in some of the world’s most difficult places.
