The Rescue the Captors Comic book is the exciting story about being kidnapped and held for ransom.  American pilot Russell Stendal’s TERROR BEGAN ON AUGUST 14, 1983. Russell landed his plane in a remote Colombian village. Gunfire exploded throughout the town. Within minutes Russell’s 142 day ordeal had begun. He dispared for his life when he tried to escape and found three machine guns pointed at his head. Surprised to be alive he was led deeper into the jungle. His captors demanded twelve million pesos. He would be held until payment was made.  Russell, with no help coming, no means of escape, or to raise the ransom, turned to the Lord. He was helpless. His only choice was to completely surrender. Russell decided to live for God.

Russell, began to write the story of his life under guard, deep in the Colombian jungle. He poured his heart out to the Lord. His “book” became a bridge to the terrorists who held him. His captors demanded to read the negative comments they thought he was writing. Instead, they found his honest human humbling before the Lord and his love for the men and women who held him.

Russell commented, “I could have written about my experiences that might have painted me as a big hero with a white hat all the time, but it would have defeated my purpose…. I have presented it as it happened.” His journal now serves as the basis for his incredible true story about how God’s love penetrated both a physical, emotional, and ideological jungle. Over time, his ordeal literally turned into a demonstration of Jesus’ ransom paying for the Columbian kidnappers. Rescue the Captors Comic book illustrates the real story of Russell Stendal and his ministry to the terrorists in the jungle.
